Hi Necstasy,

I found a file on the Internet a long time ago called "Emulator Cheats V2.00". It was in French but I could still understand enough to use it. The Homepage button on EC doesn't have information anymore about where to get the file, but the cheats were made by Raph99 and Squaresoft74, and I recognized Squaresoft74 on this forum (I think). And I was wondering if anyone still has that cheat engine. And also if any improvements were made for Magic Engine 1.0.

Hi David,

Emulator Cheats is originaly a Chinese program that we translated and made PCE cheats for.
It's only compatible with Magic Engine up to 099b5 version and not with the 1.xx ones sadly.
As far as i know there's no new version with ME1.xx support and last time i checked, it was a while back, the original site was down.

You are very helpful and I'm glad you speak English. Do you know if anyone still has a copy of the cheat engine with the TG16/PCE cheats?

I was also wondering if the author of Magic Engine would be interested in adding those cheats to his emulator somehow. It would be handy to have, if it doesn't take too much work.

David Michel has stated on many occasions that he was interested in implementing a cheat and debug engine into ME, but it's a very low priority on his feature list.

I hope they decide to add that feature to Magic Engine someday.

I digged through my old CD's and found an old copy of Emulator Cheats V2.00. I'm not sure if this is the latest version but it's the one I had.

Ok. I found a way to use the cheats from Emulator Cheats in another emulator cheating program called Cheat Engine to run in Magic Engine 1.0, but it's a little messy though.

First: you have to download and install Cheat Engine (which some anti-virus programs claim it is a virus, but the author has repeatedly said it's not and plans to improve later versions of it so that it's not detected as a virus)
Second: Start Magic Engine 1.0
Third: Open up Cheat Engine, click the first button on the upper left hand side, select the process labeled "pce.exe" (without quotes) and click OK
Fourth: click the Open button, and open your cheat file (Here's a cheat file for Bonk's Adventure)
Fifth: Click the cheats you want to use, and switch back into Magic Engine

That's It.
Tell me if it doesn't work for you, I only tried it on Windows XP.



Now for making the cheats:
The cheats for Magic Engine 1.0 have an offset of Hex D336000 over the old Emulator Cheats cheats. So to get the new cheat address for a cheat you want to use in Cheat Engine, add Hex D336000 to the old cheat address.

The Emulator Cheats cheat codes are stored in Frechts\Pce from the Emulator Cheats installation directory. Open up your cheat file (*.cht), and I'll do an example for you: this is the Infinite Lives cheat for Bonk's Adventure:

[Vies Infinies]
On=DB1,9

The address is DB1 and the value is Hex 9. So to get the Cheat Engine cheat for that code, add D336000 + DB1 which is D336DB1. And that's the cheat you add into Cheat Engine (click "Add Address Manually" Button - Change Type to "Byte" NOT "4 Bytes" - Give it a description and your done). Then, once the cheat is added, click the Value column under that cheat, and change the value to the Value you want it set at (in Dec not Hex) (in our example of Infinite Lives: the value is Hex 9 (and convert it to Dec) which is 9). Add all the cheats you want for that game and save the cheat file.

And That's it. o_O

Actually, that program was working fine for me and then I just downloaded AVG (the free antivirus program), and it detected Cheat Engine as a trojan horse downloader! So DON'T DOWNLOAD CHEAT ENGINE WHATEVER YOU DO! The way to find cheats still applies and it is the same way, but don't use that program to find cheats! I'll hopefully find another program sometime soon.

Unless you got an altered version, it's a false positive alert.
Maybe you should try better Antivirus such as Nod32.

No it wasn't Emulator Cheats that had the virus, it was the one I thought was good, Cheat Engine. After reading the post the author wrote (he's very cynical about it though), it seems that Cheat Engine is actually safe, even though anti-virus programs say it is a trojan horse or backdoor virus. So you can use Cheat Engine to use cheats for Magic Engine 1.0 as a temporary solution to Emulator Cheats, or if cheat functions become available in Magic Engine in the future.
