I have been trying to use the Ys IV translation on MagicEngine and I can't get the disk to burn properly.

I'm using OS X, so cdrwin is not a option for me. I use cdrdao to record cd's but for some reason it won't accept the cue file I have for the bin. I'm wondering if anyone who has a verified good image (of the R1F version) and has a unix/linux/os x system can make a toc file for cdrdao so I can burn this thing right. I don't know why it won't burn with my cue, it just won't.

So if anyone has cdrdao and could make me a toc file for a bin I'd be forever grateful for your efforts. I would love a toc for a full disk bin rip but if someone can make a working toc for a iso/wav rip I could use that too.

I'm starting to feel like the only non-windows using pce enthusiast...

Is your system running on an Intel CPU. If it is, you may have to use bootcamp and create a Windows session only for these softwares.

For my personal use, I have a MacBook and I'm going to install Windows on it. But I play my roms on OS X with the excellent new version of Magic Engine 1.0.

I'm sorry, but I don't know any software running on OS X which can do the same as cdrdao. Maybe could you ask it on the Magic Engine forum.

much easer, you may try this burner or toast. They're both allowed to burn saturn isos, so i supposed it could work for pce isos. No guaranty

So, if it's a burner you look for, you have Firestarter FX, too.

I have cdrdao. When burning a image with it expects a bin/toc instead of a bin/cue. cue files are supposed to be able to be used to burn disks with cdrdao, but I've noticed anything with more then one iso file in a bin will not burn using a cue. Ys IV has two iso tracks on the disk, so the cue won't work.

I would post on the MagicEngine forum but I know they are usually not kind to anyone trying to burn a cd, so I'm not going to post there so they can flame me.

I would also have tried NightWolve's site but his forum won't let any new members register/join. So I'm out of luck there.

I figured since this is about the only place on the web where pce iso's are discussed at all, this would be a good place to start. Not to mention, I figured most of the cue files here were scanned from real disks, and someone who hangs around here might happen to have a real Ys IV and be able to assist me in this. I also posted at romhacking.net

Anyway, I'm trying SimplyBurns now, maybe this will work? I'll let you all know.

You can make a loop device for a iso9660 filesystem, but OS X doesn't recognize PCE Cd's completely on the system.

I used this SimplyBurns application and I have made a disk that verifies good against necstasy's list according to the LBA values. It is running in MagicEngine, so I may have fixed my issue. It is still listed as "PCE CD" in MagicEngine though. I would have assumed it would list as "Ys IV - The Dawn of Ys (J)" but maybe David hasn't added toc info for this game.

Either which way, I do have it running now, I'm only wondering if the ppf patch which should be auto-recognized will work correctly with my disk now.

I have to go to work so I'll get back to all of this later, hopefully I've finally found the solution to burning PCE Cd's on OS X.

.dmg files could be considered as virtual drive
that's a good idea Kaminari had !

The .dmg format don't support cd's of this type. If you make a .dmg of a PCE CD you'll get a .dmg image of the first audio track, and nothing else.

I've tried that solution many times.

What OSX needs is a Daemon Tools like app.

I've burned plenty of good PCE Cd's with cdrdao on OS X, as long as they only have one .iso file/track. Anything with more then one iso has given me trouble thus far.

I'm still digging into figuring this out, and I'm getting closer...

Well I put my Ys IV burn through the TurboRip challenge (using VirtualPC) and it does verify as a perfect disk now!

The process to make this perfect disk on OS X is quite lengthy and cannot be done without VirtualPC, since I needed to use Daemon Tools, CDRWin, and TurboRip.

And after all that I could burn my good disk on OS X with SimplyBurns.

Not quite the OS native solution I was looking for, but it works!

I guess I'll have to write a tutorial for this process, after I do a few more tests to make sure it's a failsafe method.

that's a pity that the first step could not be accomplished with a OS X native solution

You are using Virtual PC, so you have an Intel processor. Why don't you use bootcamp? It is better for the speed processor than Virtual PC and it's free.

The world of the emulation on Mac is not as good as on Windows. It's a reality and if you continue in this way, you must have a session running on Windows.

heh, ya I'm on a PPC Mac, VPC is PPC only...

I'm not going to get into a OS debate, but I switched to Mac from using Linux (and I still use Linux also). I haven't owned a PC capable of running Windows in almost 10 years. I guess if/when I buy a new Mac, that will change though
