Most of it is the music; there are a large number of soundtracks. There are a lot of cutscenes as well, but the audio for those will likely be done via ADPCM streaming. It is a rather ambitious project, but then again, so was Mysterious Song, hehe. :) But yeah, I'll let you know. For now, I have to finish Mysterious Song and get it prepared for pressing...

En effet , et c'est une bonne nouvelle ! :) Et en plus de savoir qu'ils vont nous concocter un super RPG en multiples CD , ça aussi c'est alléchant !

Nodtveidt : that's really good news to hear it will be a pressed CD , and about your future RPG project ! :) But i'm wondering why there is no team that would like to translate some of the best RPG existing like Gulliver boy ? Is it too hard to do ? I mean not the translation but the coding ? I'd like to hear a develloper point of view.

There actually is a Gulliver Boy translation project already, but I don't know who's doing it. Translating an existing game is a tremendous amount of work, and most people just don't have the skills to do it, and those who do don't usually have the time or the desire. I personally don't do translations of existing games because I prefer to build games from the ground up. Tomatheous was involved in some translations though...I believe he was part of the crew that was translating Cosmic Fantasy 1. Also, he has this thing for messing with NES games to make them run on PCE hardware. :)

Speaking of translations though...we do still need a English-to-French translator for Mysterious Song. The script is quite small, and it's not "work for free" either...whoever translates it will receive at least a free copy of the game, if not more. But time is running out, so we need to find someone dedicated, and quickly...December 31st is almost here. :)

Someone has sent to me a block form Gulliver Boy. So at least we know that someone extracted the script. I'd like to translate it as it's one of ma favourite RPGs for the system but I'm afraid I won't have enough time to work on this project.

P'tain pourtant je te garantie que je me ferais une joie d'y jouer malgré mon peu d'intérêt pour les RPG. Ca m'avait bien plu ce que tu m'en avais montré chez James.

Mais bon, DOTB, Bible II toussa, je comprends.

I didn't mean it was easy to translate of course , i know it's a lot of work , i just wanted to say that it's possible. I've heard that it was very hard to replace japanese tongues(or words...) with english because there was very little place on the disc especially if it's full. And english writing is longer than japanese writing. But it's good news too if someone is trying to translate Gulliver !

I would have loved to help translating Mysterious song but i'm in a hard working period actually , missing time too, and i don't know if i would appreciate the game after translating it , wouldn't i know the whole story ??? I think it's better when done by a team member who already know everything about the game. By the way , english is always better than japanese even if french is even better for us, but most RPG fans are surely used to english speaking.

Yeah, translating Japanese to a language that uses a Latin-based alphabet (such as English, Spanish, French, etc) can be very difficult in terms of space since the amount of letters is greatly reduced and therefore more singular characters are required to spell out the same words. Quite often, additional compression has to be performed, which is more work for the programmer. And then there's the issue of localization; some things simply don't translate properly from one language to another, so liberties have to be taken with the translation. One such untranslatable phrase exists in the Mysterious Song script...a simple play-on-words that just doesn't work in any other language than English. Our Spanish translator had a very hard time with it, so it's left untranslated for the time being until a similar phrase can be thought of.

But yeah...anyone who translates the game will know the full story ahead of time. That's not always such a bad thing though. :D

Hey Nod,

Glad to hear that Mysterious Song is just around the corner. Honestly, I thought that would never happen and I'm happy to have been proven wrong in this matter!

I didn't quite understand whether the release is planned for December of February. My plate is choke full for the time being; but out of curiosity, what's the ultimate deadline to hand in the translations?

We'd like all translations to be completed by the end of November, since it takes time to get the new text into the programs...

Salut,
